one (pea)coat to rule them all (and some birthmark ramblings)

Yesterday was kind of a big day for me. My husband and I went to the laser clinic at the local hospital in the nearest big city. I've been going to the laser clinic for a few months now so that the doctor can figure out the right dose and type of laser to treat my birthmark. Yesterday, she did the first big treatment of it, where she layered the entire area. My husband held my hand during the painful parts!

It's really significantly lightened! I will have to wait and see if it stays this light, however...she said we might have to use a different type of laser (IPL) since this birthmark is kind of a strong one.

I never really thought much about getting it lasered. No one in my friends and family ever made me feel like it was something I needed to do. Even if they had, I have had a strong conviction that no one ever needs to do anything to change their appearance to fit in. But as I approach 30, I decided to just go for it and see if it's possible. To be honest, I've just reached the point where I'd love be able to roll out of bed and feel ready to go without putting concealer on.

Anyway, here are some pictures from a walk around our village on Sunday. This is my favourite smart winter coat. It's from & Other Stories--I bought it a couple years ago now and it's still just as cute. It's the only peacoat I've worn that really keeps the Scottish wind out.
