worth the hype? laneige lip sleeping mask review

Raise your hand if you've struggled with dry lips. They are often the bane of my existence (which probably shows that my life isn't very hard). Those pesky flakes and cracks get in the way of my long-standing love affair with matte lips, and I just don't like it.

I've therefore embarked on a quest to find the best repairing lip balm available. I was so curious to try the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask. I had high hopes that it would perform even better than my beloved Clinique Pep Start Pout Restoring Night Mask. I have been using this since Christmas, so read on to see if it succeeds in soothing my suffering pout...

How does it perform?

It comes in a little pink pot (love the packaging) with the most darling little pink spatula in a teensy tiny envelope pouch.

Honestly, I ditched the spatula pretty soon because the pouch got really grubby and I didn't feel it was increasing the hygiene of the product all that much. It was kind of a hassle to use.

The product itself is a thick, smooth, pink balm that smells slightly of bubble gum. I slather this on before bed and throughout the day as a top-up balm.

This product has some pros and cons. It's not all bad and it's not all good. It definitely makes your lips super soft and pillowy--my husband actually joked that they were borderline too soft. So it succeeds in that regard.

However, it doesn't succeed in healing the cracks and flakes as well as the Clinique one does. Because it makes the lip skin so soft, it ironically also makes it even more flakey and kind of makes it peel away the day after you use it.

Unfortunately, this is a "no" from me.

Have you guys tried the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask?
