a peek inside my on-the-go makeup bag

a peek inside my on-the-go makeup bag

I don't know about you, but I have this horrible habit of pressing snooze one too many times on my alarm clock and rushing for the bus--eliminating time for anything but the absolute essentials in the morning.

I'd love to be one of those people who just really has their life together and wakes up early and meditates or whatever, but I'm just not.

The plus side is that I've developed a really good, pared-back, on-the-go makeup routine that can be done in 5 mins or less--usually in the loos at a Pret-a-Manger. Fancy a peek?

Step 1: Base Products

If I'm in a rush, I probably won't have had time to do a full skincare routine, meaning that I'll need my base products to do some of the work of skincare. That's why I include a moisturising BB cream with SPF. I'm currently trialling this one from a Korean brand called Purito. I love it so far--it's super affordable, has a great level of SPF, and has a dewy-but-not-shiney finish. Full disclosure: this was sent to me to review.

Then I'll slap on some of the L'Oreal Pro-Glow on my rosacea and the redness around my nose. I'm currently loving the MUR Conceal & Define concealer in C2 for my birthmark. I pop that on using a Real Techniques brush and set it in place with the Glossier Wowder.

I won't bother with blush or bronzer, as if I'm rushing, my rosacea is probably flaring, meaning I've got a natural blush going on.

Step 2: Eyes

Then I'll go in with my old favourite, the Glossier Boy Brow in Blonde. The only thing I don't love about this is that towards the end of the tube, when you've had it for a few months, it kind of loses its holding power. Luckily it's not too pricey.

I'll skip eyeshadow and head straight for mascara. I'm currently loving the Benefit Bad Gal Lash mascara. No--this is *not* the one they just released that's getting insane levels of hype. I tried to buy that, but accidentally bought this one instead--and it was such a happy accident. It gives the most perfectly natural-yet-full look to your lashes without clumping. It will smudge a tiny bit by the end of a long day, but that's par for the course in my opinion.

Step 3: Lips

If I've got time, I'll define the edges of my lips with the Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat in Iconic Nude, which was a purchase inspired by Youtuber Shelbey Wilson. It really matches the colour of my natural lip line. Then I'll either pop on something neutral and matte, like the Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution lippie in English Beauty, or something glossy and hydrating, like the YSL Tint-in-Oil in shade number 6. This is a gorgeously hydrating product that actually genuinely tints your lips. Shade 6 is a pretty, bright(ish) pink.

If anything's looking a bit dry, I will generously spritz the Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist all over.

Step 4: Rush out of whatever public loo I've been occupying and grab a (much needed) coffee

While I'm enjoying my soy latte, I'll pop a bit of the Glossier You Perfume Solid onto my wrists and neck.

That's all, folks! What's your on-the-go makeup routine?
