This pretty little thing was my present to myself when I finished my PhD. After I wrote about it in my beauty lover's gift guide, I couldn't stop thinking about it. And boy was it worth it! In addition to the chicest packaging, it has come in handy so many times over the last few weeks. Read on to find out how...

So what does it contain?

The Chanel Palette Essentielle contains three cream products: a concealer, a highlight, and a pigment that works on lips and cheeks. I have the lightest shade, Beige Claire. There are two darker shades.

So how does it perform?

1) Blush/Lipstick: As you can see from the swatches, the blush/lip pigment is a pretty, coral-y pink. It gives a gorgeous flush to the cheeks. It's a little pinky-er than the Glossier Cloud Paint in Dusk (another current favourite--review here), so I use it when I want a healthy, blush-y look and pair it with a nude or natural lip and a plain eye look. It's super brightening. It's also super cute and easy to coordinate your lip colour with your cheek colour.

2) Highlight: This is a natural-looking highlight with just the teensiest bit of shimmery. It's a bit stronger than the Glossier Haloscope (review coming soon), but it's still super natural on the skin and works really well for a no-makeup makeup look. I also use this on the bridge of my nose and my Cupid's bow.

3) Concealer: This. Concealer. Is. Great. It packs a serious punch in terms of coverage (especially when applies with a brush). It doesn't crease under the eyes and looks so smooth and natural on the skin. It passes the birthmark test, which can't be said of most concealers (the only other one that passes is the Collection Lasting Perfection--review here). When used with a detailer brush, this is a great one for spots as well.

So what's the verdict?

It's pricey, but the Chanel Palette Essentielle is worth it, at least in my opinion. The mirror and the compact size make it perfect for travel and for touch-ups throughout the day. It's a phenomenal all-in-one. Well done, Chanel!
