In my never-ending quest for the ultimate "no-makeup-makeup base", I have kissed a lot of frogs. And by frogs, I mean bases that promise a skin-like finish and don’t deliver. They end up looking cakey, flaky, and unnatural.

I am happy to say that the Dior Dreamskin Perfect Skin Cushion is not one of these disappointing bases. It's billed as the last step of your skincare routine and provides natural-looking, barely-there coverage. The coverage is light, but evens out the skin tone nicely. I have a lot of redness on my cheeks, and it doesn’t fully neutralize that—but to be honest, almost nothing can (read more about my rosacea story here). This would be a great base for those days when you want flawless skin and don’t mind doing a bit of spot concealing to cover up those areas not disguised by the Dior compact.

There are a few things to bear in mind when considering this product. For one, although it has SPF 50, it’s definitely safer to layer a sunscreen product underneath. Secondly, it’s difficult to build this product to a higher coverage. I find on the second layer, it starts looking cakey really quickly—which is very disappointing given how natural and dewy just one layer looks on the skin.

Have you tried the Dior Dreamskin Perfect Skin Cushion? What are your favourite "no-makeup makeup" bases?
